1.3 million euros will be allocated for the green hydrogen pilot project

On June 19, in Berlin, as part of the week of Georgian-German government negotiations, an agreement was signed between the General Director of the Oil and Gas Corporation, Giorgi Chikovani, and the Director of the Energy Sector of the German Development Bank (KFW), Bodo Schüling, for the development of green hydrogen consumption and related preparatory measures. 1.3 million euros will be allocated.

Funding, according to the draft agreement, has entrepreneurial goals – the received funds are determined for technical and economic justification, design, environmental impact reports and the implementation of the project of relevant legislative initiatives, etc.

The German federal government intends to promote the development of the green hydrogen market in Georgia, which is planned to be achieved through the German Development Bank and in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. For the aforementioned purpose, in connection with the development of the green hydrogen pilot project, a memorandum was signed between the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, the Batumi Municipality Hall and the German Development Bank. The memorandum confirms the intention of the parties to jointly develop both, as green hydrogen pilot plant as its full value chain.

The noted agreement is the initial stage of the project, based on it, with the amount allocated ( 1.3 million euros ) first steps will be taken in the direction of green hydrogen development.

Batumi municipal transport is considered  as the first stage of implementation of green hydrogen, one of the cleanest energy products in the world, the preparatory works of which will probably last 1 year.
